We arrived early Tuesday morning at a wet and windy Snetterton and following the briefing and sighting laps we decided to run the BMW in the morning and hope for a drier track later in the day before taking the Aquila out. Annoyingly the alternator on the BMW decided that this was the ideal time to stop charging the battery and it refused to run even after a jump start so we decided to pinch one of the batteries from the Toyota Amazon tow car and charge the BMW battery by running it on the Amazon. This was the first outing for the 328 Sport and we were really pleased with how it ran, much more power compared to the old 320 and equally fun to drive and bizarrely the alternator had started to charge (not a good one but enough to stop the battery draining) so we we didn’t need to keep swapping the batteries around. After the lunch break the weather had improved and we stuck the wets on the Aquila and guess what, the batteries wouldn’t start the car! We have had to jump the Aquila first time it’s been used before but we’d had the car on charge for a day before so it was a bit odd but we were confident that, once it had a few laps under its belt, it would be ok. Unfortunately this wasn’t happening and we were having to use the jump pack each time we started the Aquila which meant we were having to keep charging the jump packs all day. Time for new batteries! Once out on the rapidly drying track however the car was running well and both Paul and Matt got in some good laps. As the track dried several of the corners were still greasy off line and Steve went in a little deep at ‘Oggies’ and ended up across the grass and sideways in one of the hay bail barriers causing a little bit of panel damage to the N/S wing and door and possible the steering rack, but no real harm done!
