Qually was at 9am when, despite the unseasonably warm weather, the track was still cold, damp and very slippery. Mike made a cautious start and after easing himself into the session he started to feel his way round and began moving up the order. With about 7 minutes of the session remaining the slippery surface flags were being shown at a couple of corners where a car had deposited oil on the racing line and Mike decided that he was unlikely to improve his time and came in.
Unfortunately with about 5 minutes left the oil seemed to disappear and the track dried out and those still out on track banged in some fast laps dropping Mike to 19th on the grid!
