The weather couldn’t have been much wetter for the season opener at Snetterton.
A very wet qually session for both the group 1 and 2 races mixed things up a bit. In the group 2 session Mike managed 17th on the grid. In the group 1 session in yet more pouring rain TC ended up 21st out of the 35 car grid but it looked like no one had told Matt it was raining as he managed to put bluebell onto P5! Everyone else wanted it to dry out, Matt was doing a rain dance!
Mike was out first in the group 2 race and in the wet conditions made his way up from 17th on the grid to p10 and a class win! This was despite a couple of spins Which he felt had probably cost him at least 2 places, but a top 10 finish was what we were aiming for and a class win is a class win!
In the group 1 race TC was once again visited by the Snetterton demons, he had a fairly minor spin at Oggies but then the car wouldn’t re start leaving him stranded on the outside of the corner, another DNF at Snetterton for a car and driver that prove to be really reliable… at any other circuit in Europe! Most annoying as he’d made up several places and was ruining in p17 having started 21st on the grid with the district possibility of claiming further positions.
Matt had had a great qualifying session and was starting from p5 on the grid. He said he was just going to stay out of trouble on the first lap as the pouring rain and large number of cars would make it dicey in the first couple of corners. That went out the window as he made his way up to P2 By half way round the first lap. A spin and a slightly long pit stop didn’t actually make any difference to the outcome and he was delighted with a podium finish, p3 over all and 2nd in class.
Well done to the drivers but mainly a huge thanks to the team, Sue, Paul, Adam and Paige for putting up with the terrible weather.
