Result: 16th overall, 3rd class D
Mike was out for only his third race this year, family and work commitments having prevented him from doing any more, but with a class win behind him and the car running well he was hoping for another good showing at the long and twisting Oulton Park circuit.
A solid qualifying put him 22nd on a 33 car grid, perhaps a couple of rows back from where he hoped to be but in sight of a good finish in the race.
Mike, as usual, started to make up places from the start and by the end of the first lap was lying in 17th, it was all going to plan when a spin on lap 5 dropped him from 14th to 23rd place. He came in on the next lap for the pitsop which at 1:01 was a drama free stop but sent Mike back out in 25th position.
Clearly now ‘on a mission’ he started to claw back the lost places and by the flag had made up 9 places to finish 16th overall and come home third in class D, a great recovery drive,
Mike said “I had a couple of spins, trying too hard to pull away from following cars, If I hadn’t made the mistakes I reckon I’d have finished 8th or 9th, frustrating but still a good race.”
